Attendance and Absence Procedures

Arrival at school

Children can enter school from 8.30am when the classroom doors, and other entrances, are opened. School begins promptly at 8.45am when registration rakes place.

Punctuality

The school day begins at 8.45am and we ask that children arrive promptly to ensure a positive start to their learning. If your child arrives after this time, they must report to the school office so that we can mark them as present, but late, on the register. Arriving at school after the register closes at 9.15am counts as an unauthorised absence.

Reporting a child’s absence

If your child is unable to attend school for any reason, please contact the school office on 01736 364087 before 9.15am (ideally before 8.45am in time for registration) on the first day of absence. If we do not hear from you, we will contact you. Unexplained absences will be classed as unauthorised.

Leaving school during the school day

If your child has to leave school early for any reason, please inform the office in advance and make sure the child is collected from reception. No child should leave the school premises during school hours unless accompanied by a parent or an authorised adult.

Medical Appointments

If your child has to attend a medical appointment, the school needs to be notified in advance and any appointment cards / letters will need to be shown to evidence this where possible.

Illness

If your child is unwell, the school should be contacted as soon as possible on the first day of the absence, either by telephone on 01736 364087 or email Mrs Gill and Mrs Stacey on alverton@tpacademytrust.org. If your child is absent for more than one day, we would appreciate regular updates. If you do not contact school, a phone call home will be made and logged as part of our attendance monitoring procedures.

We understand that there are sometimes circumstances in which your child cannot attend or may be late and, in these situations, we ask that you contact us to discuss the matter. We are here to help.

Please see our Attendance Policy for more details.
