PE and Sports Premium

"Active bodies, healthy minds."

Our vision at Alverton Primary School is to ensure all children enjoy Physical Education and Sport. Through Physical Education and Sport we aim to improve health and well-being, to promote active participation and lifelong learning and for each child to fulfil their potential.

At Alverton Primary School, we believe PE and Sport play an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better. As part of the 2012 legacy, we aim to offer every pupil active time during the school day, harnessing this increased self-esteem and confidence within other lessons.

We are committed to using this funding to develop high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people. We have an effective programme of CPD running as part of our membership with the PPE Sports Partnership which aims to offer staff new skills and increased confidence when delivering school sport. As well as this, we are building links with community clubs to provide an essential exit route for the most able pupils.

This year, we are particularly focusing on developing outdoor learning across the curriculum. We are working with a specialist outdoor leader and our new team of ‘Rangers’, to help develop our school grounds as well as delivering lunchtime outdoor opportunities for all children.

We share the DfE’s vision for the Primary PE and Sports Premium, aiming to ensure that all pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport and to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of our PE and sport provision and we aim to develop our provision and the children’s experiences using the DfE’s key indicators:

  1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy, active lifestyles
  2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  3. increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. increased participation in competitive sport
